b) Why do you believe this technology will be useful to society?
This technology will be useful to society for endless reasons. Considering the pricing of the technology is seems a good idea to put this technology in cars as it will highly reduce the amount of accidents on our roads and in turn make it safer for passengers aswell as learning, new and old drivers.

Homework - Week 2 (Due by Friday 8th February 2013) Empty a)What is the best feature of this technology and why?

Post  Elliott Duggen Tue Feb 05, 2013 8:34 am

I believe the best feature of this chip is the cost. It will cost car manufacturers around $90 per vehicle, rather than the $1500 price tag that other similar products carry. It is also incredibly small, a remarkable 5 mm long and 5 mm wide.

Homework - Week 2 (Due by Friday 8th February 2013) Empty A)WHAT IS THE BEST FEATURE OF THIS TECHNOLOGY AND WHY?

Post  Daniel Galea Wed Feb 06, 2013 7:16 am

A) The best feature about this technology is the way it can detect and identify cars and traffic problems from a distance using radar waves. These waves can detect objects from a distance allowing the driver to avoid the object and potentially save his life.

Homework - Week 2 (Due by Friday 8th February 2013) Empty A) what is the best feature of this technology and why?

Post  James Galea Wed Feb 06, 2013 11:26 am

The best feature of this new technology is its ability to detect cars via radar technology within five metres. This is a great feature and at a small cost and small size, it seems as if this technology would be working flawlessly but, it picks up cars within a 5 metre radius so what would this mean for when you are driving side by side another vehicle or, most states have a law to keep about a car length which is less then 5 metres. Would this mean that cars would just be randomly stopping in the middle of the road, so although this technology does seem great and flawless I think that there are obvious issues that the technology would pose that would need a major amount or engineering to fix.

Homework - Week 2 (Due by Friday 8th February 2013) Empty Question B

Post  Mr. Hankey Wed Feb 06, 2013 11:35 am

We now have more cars on our roads than ever before. Road safety is something that is constantly being identified as something that needs to occur and in my opinion the technology would be most useful in a situation of drunk or learner drivers. Those whose judgement is impaired due to a lack of experience or common sense. Not only does it help them, it prevents the innocent drivers on our roads from being harmed or injured by those surrounding them. All in all, it's a very intelligent device that if mastered, could save millions of lives in the long run, a win-win situation.

Homework - Week 2 (Due by Friday 8th February 2013) Empty Question (A)

Post  KdIzZlE nIzZlE Wed Feb 06, 2013 12:25 pm

There are many useful features about the ROACH technology, but I believe that the ability to send a warning signal to the driver is it's greatest aspect. It has the capability to save many lives of with the implement of this product, especially to the elderly or inexperienced drivers on their learners permit.
Many drivers, especially the two examples previously mentioned are often caught up on other things whilst driving such as changing gears or indicating. I believe the ability to warn a driver to watch the traffic and to potentially save a fatal crash is quite an impressive gadget to have.
It does have it's flaws like many other products but over time this has the potential to be the most important safety feature to have in your car.

Post  KStricker Thu Feb 07, 2013 6:17 am

This new technology is pure genious! The fact that a small 5mm by 5mm machine could detect obsticals around the car is amazing. Although all of this is great, the best feature of this technology is the price. Only $90 per car. This is my answer to this question.

C) the ROACH technology has many other useful applications besides car safety. the ROACH could be used to assist with bomb disposal and rescue robots. helping them get a clearer view of there surround area. it could also de used as a night vision device as it is abel to detect small and large objects at a distance. Well, There is many things that is really good about this technology but the best features, in my opinion, would be that helps detect the car's surrounding that sends a radar pluses to detect object which the radar pluses get reflected back and also it has computerised assistance possible without losing any function or control of the vehicle.

B) WHY DO YOU BELIEVE THIS TECHNOLOGY WILL BE USEFUL TO SOCIETY

I believe this technology will be useful to society in many ways. Some reasons are more obvious than others.
- It will save many lives
- It is cost effective which gives big car companies more incentive to install them or fund the project
- If exported internationally they have the potential to further bolster the Australian economy.
- Builds a path way into further enhancement of car safety technology.

It is quite clear that this project is a worthy on and should be supported. jocolor

B)Why do you believe this technology will be useful to society?

This technology would be exceedingly useful to our society because of the reduced costs and it's overwhelming attributes, such as the ability to detect other vehicles, people and obstructions to avoid accidents. The use of this piece of technology I believe would make a huge difference to driving world and save many lives. Aside from the obvious, the ROACH tech would really help many people with their driving giving them the extra confidence of safety the Roach offers.

B) WHY DO YOU BELIEVE THIS TECHNOLOGY WILL BE USEFUL TO SOCIETY

I believe that this technology will be of great use to today's society for the safety it provides people. This technology creates an image of what is around it from a tiny 5mm by 5mm square. It will also one day be able to assist in automatic responses which would make driving easier and safer than ever before. This technology gets even better when you find out that it only costs $90 per vehicle instead of $1500 for similar technology.

B/ this new ROACH micro chip technology will be useful to society for many obvious reasons:
- it is very simple, small and effective
- it will save countless lives of drivers and/or pedestrians
- the chip is being developed to provide extras such as auto brake without loss of control
- it is much cheaper than similar technology being used today ($90 vs $1500 approx.)
- people can drive on roads much safer and feel more comfortable on the road
- who knows what great mind will develop something else based off this

Post  Conor O'Brien Fri Feb 08, 2013 7:12 am

I believe the best feature of the ROACH technology is the size of the device. It being very small it won't disrupt anything you have in your car and won't be easily noticed by people. The ROACH being the size it is would fit almost anywhere in your car. As they develop the technology, the device could get even smaller and could be almost invisible.

b) Why do you believe this technology will be useful to society?

The best feature about this device is the cost of it, the ROACH technology is very cheap for what it is, it only costs an $90 for car manufacturers to implement this technology in their vehicles. Compared to the price that has been used for the same type of technology. This will save consumers a lot of money.

I believe that the ROACH technology will be useful to society because it will not only prevent car accidents, it will have additional features such as instant breaking, adaptive cruise control and blind spot assistance. Also, this technology is cheap and new drivers won't have to worry as much about road hazards which helps them learn and drive more safely than before, with the assistance of the ROACH technology.

Post  ConnorByrne Fri Feb 08, 2013 12:53 pm

As I understand the technology, it could be used for a multitude of things:
-Chris noted outlined it's uses in Night Vision
-It could also be used to analyze opponents on the battlefield i.e. equipment, stature, ect. From this, you could make judgements on the best course of action.
-Checking if somebody's shirt is tucked in.
-Finding hidden things
-Other Vehicles (E.g.Planes, Bikes, Helicopters)
-Helping blind people navigate
-Affordable Sonar
-Knowing what's behind you
-Seeing in spaces that are too dark to see otherwise

This microchip radio device could be revolutionary to aid in the safety of road users. It could significantly reduce road accidents as it would alert the driver if an object was to close to the car. For example it could warn drivers to back off if they were trailing behind a vehicle too close. Personally i think this is exactly what the country needs as our roads are filled to the brim with revved up petrol heads who make the roads unsafe.

Homework - Week 2 (Due by Friday 8th February 2013) Empty What is the best feature of this technology and why?

Post  Gustavo Borromeo Fri Feb 08, 2013 2:43 pm

I believe the best feature of this revolutionary technology is the way it can track objects around it from a distance. By doing this, the percentage of car crashes and other related accidents will decrease and the number of road deaths will hopefully disappear. Being estimated to be only $90 is another good thing because it can be installed without losing a lot of money.

b) Why do you believe this technology will be useful to society?

The roach project is a very appropriate design for the current road safety problems we face today. I believe this technology will be useful in society because it increases driver and passenger safety in a economical efficient way. Project ROACH allows for technological advances, such as the ability to apply software which will more than half the chance of a crash. This is just one of the many practical uses for such a device which will benefit today's common society. Very Happy
